Over on Feathermoon a player decided getting to level 85 via killing NPCs and performing quests just wasn't going to cut it. So instead they decided to reach the level cap solely via XP earned from gathering professions.
I'm not kidding.
Can you imagine 85 levels of only picking flowers? Even better? The character was only created last November, so it only took them five months.

I'm certainly not THAT "hardcore" (if hardcore is a code for insane), but a couple of my characters gained a level in Cataclysm doing nothing but map segments and archaeology. No joke.

My obsessive-compulsive gotta-get-'em-all type husband ground his main from 80 to 85 on nothing but Archaeology. He has supernaturally high tolerance mind-numbing tedium, I swear.

Um you cant because you cant get your first professions until lv 5 so 1-5 you have to quest he LIES

But the stats say he only completed one quest (because he opened a letter by accident), and also it is possible to level from exploration XP too...
