re: [RP Open Thread] On the waves to Northrend

The carrack Hellscream's Bounty is, unlike many of the vessels moored to either side of it at Bilgewater Harbor, not a vessel of war. Three-masted, rounded of stern, and high of both aft-and-forecastles, it is a merchant vessel currently contracted to carry supplies to the skeleton crew at Warsong Hold in Northrend and receive whatever goods the locals and the Horde's few, scattered settlements produce for shipment to the southern markets. After a negotiation with the goblin captain that feels rather less like a "negotiation" than a "thorough and uncomplicated act of highway robbery" its mission also expands to carrying a handful of passengers to port in the Borean Tundra in cramped but adequate comfort if no particular style. And you're still paying less than was asked all the jobbing mages you inquired with regarding a portal to Dalaran.

You are encouraged, as a matter of courtesy to the crew, to obtain your own food and drink for the voyage, though storage space for the same will be supplied, and your own bedding unless you enjoy the adventurous thought of sharing body lice of unknown origin. The cabin, singular, that your coin purchases is not precisely roomy but it does contain sufficient bunks -- some bolted to the walls, some hanging hammocks strung between -- for everyone to sleep and a sturdy sea-chest with a lock for items that you might not want to have wander away.

The ship weighs anchor in the small hours of the morning...

In the interest of keeping matters relatively contained, I'm going to suggest that we use this thread as an IC interaction point headed into Thursday: Steadfast is headed to Northrend.

Skyspear will not compete with the others for bunk space. He doesn't need to sleep, and recently, he really doesn't want to. He may, however, cause some disturbance as he will spend a lot of time scribbling in his notebook, often accompanied by half-aware mutterings about souls, sanity, [redacted] ancient mages and their [redacted] artifacts and the likely reaction of Highlord Mograine to finding all this out via a written report.

(( I am assuming we're all headed to Northrend? If not, disregard this. ))

Having disappeared after Yarrow's personality shift, Folami reappeared at the inn around mid-morning escorted by an older blood elf wearing the armor of the Blood Knights. Though he wasn't introduced and stayed only long enough to see Folami to the door, those who saw him would notice the unmistakeable family resemblance between father and daughter. As for Folami, she kept the hood of her cloak pulled low over her head to shield her eyes from the light, spoke very little, and pretty much behaved as anyone recovering from a massive hangover would. It was probably a minor miracle that she was able to function well enough to join the others for the journey to Northrend.

Now, a few hours and several medicinal potions later, she ventures out into the open and looks for familiar faces. She spies a few crewmen casting awkward glances at Skyspear in response to his mutterings. She approaches him and quietly says, "I'll try not to keep you from whatever it is you're doing. I'm curious to know if you've heard how Yar...Sol...," she stops for a moment and settles on, "Do you know how he's doing?"

((Erm, I must be suffering memory loss, but I find I need to check - Soliyarrow did end up getting packed off to Mardenholde, yesno?))

Sorry for the delay -- he was not packed off to Mardenholde.

Skyspear looks troubled. "Lady Folami, I feel quite certain that Solivar is not doing well. To be faced with all that has happened since... as I understood it, when this, this soul transfer was set in place, Solivar may even have still believed there was a chance of saving Quel'Thalas." He shakes his head. "To wake without one's memories is troubling enough, to hear some of my brothers tell it. When he finds out what has happened in his absence as it were, what he has become - "

"But as for Yarrow... I fear I can't offer any words of comfort, not knowing how this spell works, but I will ask in my report," he taps the notebook, "that Solivar's body be more carefully monitored. If he is in Yarrow's body, Yarrow may be in his, as it were... and that is an experience he should not have to go through alone."

Folami grimaces briefly before taking on a neutral expression. "Surely it will be traumatizing when he learns what has happened," she agrees, "but part of me remembers that vision and thinks perhaps for now his lack of memories might yet be a very small mercy. Still, a cruel situation all around and I can't help but wonder if whatever is responsible for this delights in toying with Keldris's emotions while it plays its games."

Skyspear's eyes narrow. "Do you suspect the Lord of the Crossroads, then? Or some other entity? I was under the impression he had not been involved with it for long... though of course it may well have been aware of him long before. This situation was certainly set up many years ago."

Folami shakes her head. "I do not think it is the Lord of the Crossroads, though one can never be sure. Twisted as it is, it seems to want to protect what it views as its property and seemed almost like it wanted us to stop whatever is behind this. Keldris must watch his love suffer, witness the horrible psychic nightmare Solivar is locked in, and when he seems ready to accept that cruelty suddenly Solivar appears in Yarrow's body. That they are identical twins can only compound the grief."

She frowns. "Of course this doesn't take Baranthore into account, but Keldris was forced to make a choice between helping his love or pursuing Baranthore. And I don't know if Baranthore and Keldris knew one another before the mirror. Obviously, the whole purpose behind these machinations are not ultimately to cause Keldris pain and are much more far reaching than that, and yet I can't say I believe that it is coincidence he suffers so much while not becoming a direct victim of the mirrors."
