re: [RP] Lost In the Shadows Part One

[On the red sands of Durotar, the shaman Jarrand Windspeaker and his brother in the spirits, Catlali Mooncaller, come together to investigate the dark mysteries left behind by the Kaldorei of old. During the course of their mission, they meet and befriend the orphaned orc girl called Roori, who was herself saved from the fury of the world’s breaking by a band of Kaldorei who roam the plains of Durotar and who had dwelt by herself in her family’s ruined home by the Southfury River. Escorting the girl to a safe dwelling-place in the Valley of Spirits, the pair realized that their best chance of obtaining useful information about the mirror was to reach out to the night elves -- and the best way to do that was to contact the Cenarion Circle...a risky endeavor given the tension between the tauren druids and the elven druids, following the outbreak of war in Ashenvale. Catlali volunteers to call in a few favors owed to him and to his allies...]

Roori says: Very Mufifns is all better now.

Jarrand kneels before Muffins.
Jarrand gently pats Muffins.
Jarrand says: Muffins looks better indeed.

Andinthe leaps from Bloodgrottle's sadle mid-air, slapping the boney !@# of the skeletal gryphon which flys away. She lands gracefully on her feet before you.
Andinthe scowls at the sight of those gathered, her eyes falling to Jarrand.

Keldris looks down at the paper in his hand, his brows knit together, and then up at the structure before him.

Jarrand says: Greetings, Death Knight.

Andinthe nods slowly, pushing past Jarrand and taking a spot in the corner.

Jarrand says: Sometimes it's better to be comfortable with one's ghosts.
Jarrand peers at you searchingly.
Jarrand says: There's something familiar about you.

Keldris bows from the neck, a slightly startled expression flitting across his face.

Jarrand says: A look in the jaw, perhaps. Family to some?

Keldris says: Me?
Keldris rubs his jaw thoughtfully.

Jarrand says: Aye, you.

Keldris says: ...Family. Well...after a fashion.

Jarrand says: Aren't all that walk these lands, after a fashion?

Roori says: wow alot of people here.
Roori sits down next to muffins

Jarrand says: Yes, and no sign of the other Death Knight.

Keldris says: I was given directions -- I hope this is the right place.
Keldris holds up a piece of parchment containing a rough sketch of the Valley of Spirits with a very literal giant red X marking the spot.

Jarrand says: Directions? And who might you be that finds directions to just this location?

Skyspear studies Andinthe thoroughly. This has to be one of the people he was told to look for...

Keldris says: My comrade Catlali Mooncaller sent for me -- about a matter of mutual interest.

Andinthe peers out at the blood elf, her eyes cold with fire.

Jarrand says: Ahh, you come with good recommendation then. It is fortunate that the right winds have carried you here.

Keldris bows from the neck, glancing around the circle, an eyebrow rising at the sight of the orc girl.

Roori says: Howdy!

Keldris says: Keldris Eventide of the Light's Promise. And you?

Roori says: Roori

Jarrand says: My name is Jarrand Windspeaker.

Skyspear jumps at hearing that name, his gaze leaping from Andinthe to Keldris.
Skyspear says: ...excuse me, sirs?

Jarrand says: And the one hiding in the corner is known as Andinthe. But she will likely be as still as the grave until irritated.

Keldris glances over his shoulder.

Jarrand looks at Skyspear.

Andinthe glares coldly at Jarrand, the air chilling around you.

Skyspear bows before Jarrand.
Skyspear bows before you.

Jarrand rubs his arms to warm the skin.

Skyspear says: Forgive me, but I could not help overhearing... the name of Eventide. I am looking for a man of that name. You are a relative of his, perhaps?

Keldris 's gaze flicks back and forth between the two death knights, one hand resting lightly on the pommel of his sword.

Skyspear tucks his own hands demonstratively behind his back. Not looking for trouble, no sir!

Keldris says: ....In a manner of speaking.

Jarrand chuckles at you.
Jarrand says: So you keep telling us, in a manner of a leaf blowing about on the wind.

Skyspear says: Then perhaps you could tell me where to find Solivar Eventide? I wouldn't intrude, but it is a matter of some urgency.

Keldris 's tone is light but there is a certain tense wariness about his eyes.
Keldris says: I'm afraid I can't help you with that...I'd rather like to see him, too.
Keldris says: It's been a long time.

Andinthe coughs loudly.
Andinthe says: He's still around, just not, as lively as he used to be...
Andinthe grins lightly.

Skyspear looks at Andinthe. "That could be said for quite a few people."

Andinthe says: Still quite humble though.
Andinthe hisses through her teeth, her flickering blue flamed eyes flaring.

Jarrand returns his attention to Roori.
Jarrand says: Seems you're quite the popular one this eve.

Roori says: Yea everyone loves me today

Skyspear looks straight at Andinthe. "Since you seem better informed, could you tell me where to find him? Or carry a message?"

Keldris inclines a questioning brow as well.
Keldris says: That's a good question. You seem to know quite a bit, Lady Knight...

Andinthe grins wickedly with a chuckle. "Wouldn't you all like to know."
Andinthe says: What reason do you have for seeking out the oh noble one.

Roori says: Come in other Smelly dude we dont bite. Well muffins does but ill keep him entertained.

Skyspear says: I bear a message from Highlord Mograine.
Skyspear gives the boar an odd look, but steps closer.

Roori feeds muffins a slice of watermellon.

Andinthe chokes up a little bit, her grin paling to a still.

Jarrand says: A message you've carried to us here?

Andinthe eyes Jarrand, then letting her cold gaze settle back onto the death knight.
Andinthe says: Yes... A message? Telling what?

Skyspear says: For lack of other leads to Sir Eventide himself, yes... and because in this matter, you might share the Highlord's concerns.

Jarrand listens intently to Skyspear.

Roori says: um ill be over here .

Skyspear looks a little uncomfortable. "I've been commanded to look in on Sir Eventide, to see how he is getting on following some recent troubles. Only that."

Andinthe laughs.

Keldris 's brow flicks up.

Jarrand says: You of course bring proof that your word holds true?

Skyspear frowns at Jarrand. "I bear a letter from the Highlord, but frankly, it would be more than my head is worth to show it off for the asking. Or to take his name in vain if I were here on my own errands.

Keldris says: ....Yeah, that actually sounds like Darion, all right.

Andinthe grins lightly at the death knight.
Andinthe says: Silvermoon is what I last heard.

Jarrand nods at Skyspear, apparently satisfied.

Skyspear says: Silvermoon...

Keldris says: You're sure about the Silvermoon thing?

Skyspear looks at Keldris with interest.

Andinthe cackles maniacally at the situation.

Jarrand says: There was ample cause for Solivar to find himself there.

Skyspear nods.

Andinthe glares at the death knight, her eyes chewing up every inch of the tall elf.

Skyspear says: Then in the absence of other leads, I should search for him there. But if he turns up, might you tell him I would speak with him?
Skyspear feels duly glared at.

Andinthe 's eyes flare up once again.
Andinthe says: Do we look like messengers to you?

Jarrand says: The rock that never moves.

Keldris says: If you'll stay for a moment...I might ask to travel with you, if that's not disagreeable.

Andinthe says: If you are going to seek out Solivar, I am coming with you...

Jarrand says: We shall of course echo your message to Solivar upon first meeting.

Andinthe sneers at Jarrand, the fire in her eyes slowly calming.

Keldris glances back and forth between the two death knights again.

Skyspear 's eyes narrow. "No, but I was told you were Solivar Eventide's friends, which is why you might wish to help him."
Skyspear says: Thank you... Farseer.

Andinthe chuckles at the mention of "friends."

Skyspear bows slightly to Jarrand, then turns his attention to Keldris.

Jarrand nods at Skyspear.

Skyspear says: I... the company would not come amiss.

Keldris says: Well, now, *this* is going to be a fun reunion. ::dryly::
Keldris says: But...if no one objects...I *did* actually come here for a purpose, as well.
Keldris says: Something about a mirror.

Jarrand says: You bring us news regarding a mirror?

Andinthe runs her cold fingers down the length of her scythe which gives off an eerie mind chilling whistle. "Mirror?"

Keldris 's hand slides off his sword hilt.

Skyspear backs away, staying in sight but not intruding on the conversation.

Jarrand says: I think your spitting into the wind will only carry you so far, Death Knight.

Andinthe says: I have no set destination, oh wise one. I am merely here for.......
Andinthe the word "entertainment" lingers on her tongue, a wicked grin following it out.

Keldris says: Rum? Crawfish? The ambiance?

Jarrand says: Fair enough.
Jarrand looks at you.
Jarrand says: The mirror?

Keldris says: Well aren't *you* a pleasant one.
Keldris shakes his head.
Keldris says: Yes. The mirror.

Skyspear 's ears perk.

Roori says: ok im lost is this the same mirror we are trying to get in touch with the purple people for?

Keldris clears his throat, keeping half an eye on the lady death knight.

Jarrand says: You hear clearly, youngling.

Keldris says: Yes. Catlali sent a message via fire, asking our help in making contact with the Cenarion Circle...

Jarrand says: Yes, we had hoped to be able to find an ear sympathetic to our cause amongst the Kaldorei

Keldris says: One of our sisters in arms, Meirin Clearbrook, is a priestess of Elune -- she volunteered to go to her people.

Jarrand says: And you have not heard word since?

Keldris says: I know Catlali traveled with her through Azshara at least as far as the river, but I haven't heard back from either of them yet.
Keldris says: It may be a few more days before they can establish effective lines of communication. As you probably know...the area's a little unsettled of late.

Jarrand says: It is a bad time for one of the Horde to be found in company with the Alliance. I hope they found their way carefully.

Keldris grimaces slightly.

Roori says: I can go talk to the purple people that found me after the tidal wave if that would help anything.
Roori says: or send a message via Hawkeye here.

Jarrand says: No, I don't think that needed yet, youngling.

Keldris says: Yeah, I know. I tried to convince Catlali to take on another guise for the purposes of keeping a low profile but he wasn't having any.
Keldris says: Otherwise...we schmoozed a little information out of the librarian in Theramore before we came here. Not much, but a little.

Jarrand says: A drop of information is what first fills the bucket.

Keldris drops his pack and fishes out a loose stack of papers -- the originals and also an orcish translation.

Roori says: Theramor. isnt that where those bad soldiers came from. the ones that try to kill me in my sleep. if it wasnt for muffins that is.

Keldris says: Explorer's League, Light love them, they record everything no matter how minor and pointless.

Roori says: well tried till i moved here.

Keldris says: Theramore...was a better place once, little one.
Keldris lays the papers out on the table.

Jarrand looks to the spread of papers.

Keldris says: Here we go...like I said, not a whole lot.

Roori looks towards her owl

Keldris says: According to the records at the League post, they've excavated bits and pieces of kaldorei leavings from one end of Kalimdor to the other.

Roori says: [Darnassian] Al rini balah Mandalas osa ni talah thus ash asto're.

Jarrand says: You speak with an interesting tongue, youngling.

Roori’s bird Flies off.
Roori says: only one Hawkeye understands.

Keldris says: ...I've never gotten the hang of Darnassian vowels. ANYway....

Jarrand says: Relics of the Kaldorei...

Andinthe eyes the documents.

Roori says: would help you guys look but i cant read yet been practicing trying.

Keldris says: I found reference to mirror fragments turning up at dig sites in the vicinity of Dire Maul -- Eldre'thalas at it used to be called -- and north here in Azshara, near the ruins of the city up there.
Keldris says: Also a report indicating that at least one whole Explorer camp had gone missing, recently.

Andinthe furrows her brow.
Andinthe says: Jarrand.

Jarrand says: We have been to Dire Maul. Azshara, not as of yet.
Jarrand looks at Andinthe.

Andinthe says: Jarrand, did any of you find actual pieces of the mirror in Eldre'thalas?

Roori whistles and a bird flies from the roof onto her arm.

Jarrand says: None that I've heard, but it seemed of no surprise to the guardians of the library there.
Jarrand says: How would you have heard of fragments found there, Death Knight?

Andinthe says: I only assume that there would be piece there, it being Highbourne in origin... Windspeaker...
Andinthe says: As you know, I don't have time to follow you all around and keep watch over the mindless ones....

Jarrand says: Perhaps there was something found. It was several moons ago and I have had much on my mind.

Andinthe sighs deeply, her blue eyes turning a darker shade.

Keldris says: I don't doubt it. And you haven't gone into Azshara yet?

Dreamseeker bows before Jarrand.

Jarrand greets Dreamseeker warmly.

Roori says: we can always go to my place and look at my mirror collection see if any are the ones you guys are talking about i have peices of tons of broken mirrors there.
Roori says: also have broken everything there though...

Andinthe eyes up the tauren, the flame around her eyes burning cold.

Jarrand says: You have found yourself to our table this eve, Druid.

Dreamseeker says: Indeed. I was passing through and happened to overhear your lively conversation. I highly admire the well spoken word.

Jarrand lets out a hearty chuckle.
Jarrand says: Lively it is with one amongst the dead present.

Keldris grins easily and inclines his head in greeting.

Dreamseeker giggles and nods at all in turn.

Andinthe hisses once more, the air chilling a bit.

Roori says: Hi!

Dreamseeker says: I heard you discussing Kaldorei artifacts. Have you had any luck finding Tyrande's Favorite Doll, perchance?

Jarrand says: I have not had chance to spend much time digging through the earth. It is a challenge anytime the Spirits of the earth might be disturbed as of late.

Keldris says: Not really my area of expertise, I'm afraid -- I'm just a messenger.

Jarrand says: But, I believe it is the digging of others that has led us to our present circumstances.

Keldris says: Though I understand that some people have been pulling fairly racy underthings out of the ice up in Winterspring.

Dreamseeker says: Indeed. I have been seeking that artifact wholeheartedly, and have been unable to find it for many days now.

Jarrand says: Sometimes things burried in the dirt wish to stay hidden.

Dreamseeker says: Yes, I had no idea that my Druid counterparts had such a... unique taste in bedclothes until I started scouring the earth for treasures.

Jarrand lets out a hearty chuckle.

Keldris rests a hand over his mouth, clearly resisting the urge to laugh.
Keldris clears his throat.
Keldris says: In any case...just to be sure...you've not been to Azshara? None of you that you know of?

Dreamseeker laughs quietly and changes the subject.

Roori says: whats so funny those coths are comfortable.

Jarrand says: Not in some time. I have heard the Goblins have disfigured the land upon their allying with the Horde.

Dreamseeker says: What is it that you are seeking in Azshara?

Jarrand says: What anyone ever looks for: answers.

Dreamseeker grins in amusement.

Keldris says: Yes, to all of the above. Also...that's where the Explorer's League is reporting a dig team missing.

Roori says: um how recent?

Keldris says: Their remote camps usually have a long-range means of communication for regular checks, particularly when they're operating in potentially hostile territory. This one missed four consecutive checks and hasn't responded to subsequent attempts to contact.

Roori says: how long ago was first check?

Keldris says: Earlier this moon -- three weeks or so ago.

Jarrand says: I know little of the Dwarves' Explorer's League. How many to a dig team?

Roori says: ok not my fault then

Dreamseeker says: Do you believe the Horde based Reliquary is to blame?

Keldris shakes his head.

Dreamseeker says: That is a relief. Sometimes the Reliquary can be a bit... hasty in their competition with the Explorer's League.

Keldris says: It could be anything -- it could be the *naga*, even, though I'm sure the Explorers would point the finger at the Reliquary or the goblins in the absence of other evidence.

Dreamseeker says: Certainly.

Jarrand says: Regardless of the threat, we should go prepared for battle.
Jarrand says: It is no doubt that hostile intent swirls about, with us at the center of its storm.

Keldris says: You'll get no argument from me on that score, Windspeaker.

Jarrand looks at Andinthe.
Jarrand says: As I am loathe to admit, another blade would be helpful. And, I don't suppose you would find it too boring to spoil your "entertainment."

Andinthe lifts her eyes to the shaman.
Andinthe says: I suppose... I can... assist...

Muffins walks over to Keldris and starts sniffing his leg.

Keldris reaches down and scratches the boar behind the ears.

Dreamseeker says: Your guild intends to foray into Alliance territory?

Jarrand says: I do not hope to venture so far into their lands.
Jarrand says: But, sometimes the river takes us through the rapids.

Andinthe stabs a dagger into the table, right through the paperwork.

Dreamseeker says: Your comrades are lucky to have such wise council.

Keldris says: The Explorer camp was actually on the far side of the Bay -- closer to Hyjal foothills than Orgrimmar.

Andinthe says: If anyone stands in my way, they will be tasting more than just cold steel.

Roori says: since you all know how to ride ill start walking to get a head start.

Keldris inclines a brow at the death knight.
Keldris says: Hold up, little one. HOW old are you?

Roori says: im Eight and i can take care of myself.
Roori says: ask Jarrand he will vouch for me.

Dreamseeker laughs at Roori.

Jarrand says: The youngling is eight and full of strength and fire. But, even amongst our people, you are young to see the front line of battle.

Dreamseeker says: You are indeed very brave for your age. Maybe your courage will protect you.

Roori says: young but not unheard of.

Skyspear , eavesdropping, blinks in surprise. Orcs do grow quickly compared to elves, but still... the Horde must be more desperate than he'd thought.

Keldris says: ....Your call, Windspeaker.

Jarrand lets out a long, drawn-out sigh.
Jarrand pulls from his pouch a well-worn Hearthstone and places it in Roori's palm.

Roori says: Whats this do?

Jarrand says: This rock will carry you to whatever land you call home. It is enchanted by powers greater than I.
Jarrand says: You may come with us, but I need your oath that, should trouble befall us, that you will flee to keep yourself safe.

Roori says: I will flee if need be. Hey i rhymed.

Jarrand says: I hope your word is as true as your word. Honor is not something to besmirch lightly. It is sometimes all we have.

Dreamseeker says: May your journey be successful. I hope that you will count me among your friends.

Jarrand nods at Dreamseeker.

Andinthe sneears, dragging the dagger from the table. "Are we going to proceed foward or stand idle here in this.... hut.."

Roori runs off with Muffins.

Jarrand begins strapping on well-worn armor.

Keldris says: I can see we're going to get along.
Keldris smiles wryly.

Andinthe summons a screeching bone gryphon, a half devoured eagle clenched in it's jaw.

Keldris says: ...That woman's got some issues.

Jarrand says: The dead who still walk often do.
Jarrand says: The Wilds scream in their ears, whether they hear or not.

Keldris says: Unfortunately true.

[Making use of the goblin rocketway, the group travels at decidedly gut-disturbing speed to the far side of Azshara, and makes their way across the explosion-sculpted bluffs toward the ruins of the ancient Kaldorei settlement that was once part of Zin-Azshari...]

Skyspear ducks behind a pillar.

Keldris says: Now...unless I'm mistaken...over this way.
Keldris says: Wait...Kaldorei. We probably don't want them to get all agitated.

[The group descends toward the gray beach, scattered with white stone ruins and echoing with the shockwaves of goblin artillery fire.]

Keldris says: The camp was down here if the map was in any way accurate....

Jarrand says: Goblins and Naga...it is no wonder the camp disappeared.

Keldris says: Kid, come back - !

[A goblin shell explodes only a few feet from where the group is gathered behind a mass of rubble that was once a temple of some sort.]

Roori says: OWW

Andinthe sniffs the air, the salty air causes her to wrinkle her nose and cringe.

Dreamseeker says: Indeed. Certainly blasted into oblivion, one way or the other.

Keldris grabs Roori by the scruff of her neck and drags her back behind a piece of rubble.

Roori says: hey im fine let me go it was just a scratch.

Jarrand says: So, to find a shard of glass in a pile of sand...

Keldris says: Maybe...What's that down there? Near the tower?

[A vivid azure glow rises near the tideline in the shadow of a massive, largely intact tower.]

Dreamseeker says: Shall we have a look? Im sure the Shamman and I can deal with the Naga. The Goblins should ignore us.

Roori says: ooh shiny.

Jarrand says: I do not believe this to be natural.

Skyspear is quite sure Jarrand is right about that, glowy blue lights seldom are.

Keldris says: Yes, it's...

Dreamseeker says: I'm surprised that the Blood Elves could not smell the magic from miles away.

Jarrand looks at a wounded goblin soldier, sprawled in the sand.
Jarrand says: As dead as the Naga.

Dreamseeker says: Even the moss flees from its presence.

Jarrand says: I see no sign of pickaxe or shovel.

Keldris runs a hand through the outermost edge of the light, a shiver running through him -- the pale glow of his eyes fading rapidly, darkening to a shade just short of black.

Andinthe says: What ever we are to do with the fascinating blue light lets do it quickly... no doubt those cannons will be adjusting shortly.

Jarrand says: Goblins are not known for their aim, but even the most random of shots may hit its mark.

Roori gets on her hands and knees and starts digging.

Keldris backs away quickly -- but not so quickly that his seeming does not shimmer, fade, nearly break.
Keldris says: Fel. *Double* fel. *!@#.

Skyspear hisses between his teeth. "As I suspected..."

Jarrand says: Paladin?

Keldris says: There's -- something in there all right. Anybody got a shovel?

Roori says: i got muffins who needs a shovel

Dreamseeker says: It is of Demon origins? I was suspecting the Naga.

Andinthe looks down to the ground.

Skyspear says: I have a polearm that might be useful.

Roori calls Muffins over to help dig.

Keldris says: I don't know but -- okay, let's put it this way --

Andinthe says: With so much magic around, why not make use of it.

Jarrand says: I may be able to find ways of moving the earth.

[Jarrand invokes the power of his bond with the elements, his totems crackling with energy.]

Jarrand looks to the towering pile of moving rocks.

Skyspear raises an eyebrow. "...impressive."

Jarrand says: Spirit of the Earth, I ask you on behalf of our brotherhood, to pull free from the ground that which we seek?

Greater Earth Elemental's enormous hands dig into the sand, excavating handfuls of crushed stone and bits of shell.
Greater Earth Elemental carefully brushes aside a tall man's height in sand...
Greater Earth Elemental reveals a gleaming jet surface, unmarred and gleaming in the twilight.

Keldris edges up as close as he dares.
Keldris says: What IS that?

Jarrand says: Many thanks, Spirit.

Skyspear says: It looks like an evil artifact, but I realize that doesn't narrow it down a great deal.

Jarrand says: I will offer up prayer to your element.

Dreamseeker says: No indeed, Skyspear. But as it is not a living thing, I fear I can be of little service. Maybe the Shaman will understand its stony depths.

The mirror's surface catches both the hue of the sky and the fiery flicker of the explosions -- and the darkly distorted images of the circle standing around it.
A tauren... ...two orcs...two elves...and a human....

Jarrand looks to the unearthed object, sideways in his periphery.

Skyspear peers at the shiny surface, fascinated. He'd expect a reflection, but it looks odd somehow, not quite like him... and then he blinks. And smirks.

Roori says: Shiny.

Skyspear says: Well, well, well.

Jarrand says: Skyspear, the reflection seen is not one you wish to gaze too longingly at.

Keldris says: We'd better pull it up.

Skyspear says: I'll take your word for that, shaman.

Keldris says: Before we get blasted into low orbit.

Jarrand says: Aye.

Andinthe nods to the cliffs up north.

Jarrand pulls a bandage from his backpack, wraps it around the mirror, and swiftly stuffs it into his satchel.
Jarrand says: I think it best it stay there, buried as it is its wish.

Andinthe nods at Jarrand and then back to the explosions erupting all around them.

Dreamseeker says: But ungarded? If it is dangerous, should we chance that it falls into the wrong hands?

Jarrand says: I shall see to it that it remains protected.
